It is, however, another page-turner. It makes me smile to read it.

Weird and wonderful and utterly delightful. Dec 18, Kara-karina rated it it was amazing. If happiness is the highest form of wisdom, then this series must be wise kushirl. Going into Kushiel’s MercyCarey has set up two expectations.
Carey has this magical way of writing female characters behaving in feminine ways and still getting important stuff done. Its predecessor, Kushiel’s Avatar was the culmination of a great tapestry of complex storylines that had been woven over the oushiel of three unforgettable volumes. Carey’s ability to weave the story around her characters trying to live by the creed established by the Blessed Elua “love kusihel thou wilt” makes it very compelling. It makes me uncomfortable to see them so wrong, for once.
Each character is remarkable, and integral to the story-line!

Phedre’s trilogy was ground-breaking in so many ways. I don’t think Carey has a good sense of how Doms work, so Imri’s interests fall kind of flat. In the second volume, epic events serve as a backdrop for his personal quest for justice.
Imriel is a more likeable character than he starts out in his series – but not nearly as good as when appearing in the final book of Phedre’s trilogy.
If you meercy got this far with Merccy Carey you know the quality of her stories you should have no doubt of her outstanding competency in telling a bloody good story. Imriel de la Courcel a traitor’s son is in love with the queen of Terre d’Ange’s daughter Sidonie.

I’m on the fence about the whole Imriel Trilogy, really. Glad to be done with this series. Terra d’Ange as we know it, and all her occupants, will be thrown into turmoil so dire, all hope is seemingly lost.
I was delighted to read this third book in the series right on the very heels of the first and second book, taking no time to breathe between them. Cruithne eyes, the only sign of her mixed heritage.
